Collin County jail passes 24th consecutive inspection

"This was the second totally surprise inspection where they just walked in the door and started inspecting the jail, which helps make everybody stay ready at all times," Collin County Sheriff Terry Box said. "We have some professional employees who do a good job and think this is a statewide records again for meeting all of the standards and being in compliance and certified for the 24th time in a row." "When you are in compliance with the rules and regulations, the judge knows that anything that's filed against the jail is frivolous and the judge can just go ahead and dismiss those lawsuits. When you're meeting all of the state's standards and when you're not, the inmates know it and the attorneys know it and if the inmates are not being take care of properly, then the county has to spend a lot of money to take care of that." "We've always used that as a demo to other folks," Munoz said. "My inspector also just told me that they (Collin County jail officials) are trying to make it better. The last time he was there, they were working on some plumbing issues for better water quality and they replaced some tables where the inmates eat. So even though they have passed their inspection, they are continuing to improve their facility.
