NUTS: Hackers Run Amok, Patent Wars Continue
The Hacking ContinuesDespite law enforcement officials' efforts, hackers are still targeting government agencies and major corporations on a nearly daily basis. LulzSec infiltrated and released dozens of internal documents -- including names, passwords, addresses and contact information from classified forms -- from an Arizona police website.
LulzSec said it did this because it disapproves of Arizona anti-immigration law, SB1070, which allows police to check the immigration status of suspects being in the country illegally. The hackers said they will continue to post more classified documents on a weekly basis.
Meanwhile, hacktivist group Anonymous broke into NATO's network, breaching the agency's public e-bookshop . The site did not contain any classified information, however, NATO has since blocked access to the service.
To make matters worse, both LulzSec and Anonymous announced a partnership to execute " Operation Anti-Security ." The operation encourages hackers worldwide to attack the world's governments and corporations, as well as banks and other high-ranking establishments.
Japanese video game company Sega also fell victim to an attack when hackers compromised 1.3 million Sega Pass network accounts. Unidentified hackers reportedly stole e-mail addresses and passwords, but left credit card numbers untouched.
LulzSec, which denied involvement, offered to help Sega find the culprits, because the hackers say they love the Sega Dreamcast, the company's 1998 video game console.
Mobile Payments Heat Up
The mobile payments industry is heating up, as companies announce future start dates and service locations. Zoosh , developed by wireless company Naratte , is aiming to allow mobile payments from nearly any phone, including feature phones, without requiring customers add extra hardware.
Zoosh uses a phone's speaker and microphone to enable ultrasonic communication with other devices. If successful, this system could bring mobile payment capabilities to low-cost phones that aren't equipped with higher-end near-field communication, or NFC, technology.
AT&T announced two new mobile barcode services that may bridge the gap between consumers and advertisers.

How to make a Verizon internet card wifi?
I have a UM175VW Verizon internet card. It plugs into our USB port
in our computer. It doesn't have WIFI and only provides us with
internet for the device its plugged into. Is there any way to make
it so that we can have WiFi with it, possibly with a router? I am
not very computer savvy, so if you can do it, please provide detailed
instructions. Thanks. Make sure the PC has a WiFi adapter (purchase one if it doesn't already
have one), configure that wifi adapter to talk to a wireless router
(purchased separately), configure the PC to connect the two networks
together, configure the other machines to talk to
Or make a wired connection from this PC to the above-mentioned wireless
router; which would avoid the need for the first wifi hop.
Or skip wifi, and connect the two machines back-to-back with a crossover
Ethernet cable.
Verizon is supposed to install FIOS today. Can't wait to have real internet again. (VZW broadband card has held up admirably, though.)
