Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra teams with Moody Blues tribute band for June 25 ...
CHAGRIN FALLS -- It’s a little bit of rock and roll, a little bit of classical music and for those involved, a lot of fun.
The 50-piece Chagrin Falls Studio Orchestra is teaming up with the five-member Moody Blues tribute band Time Traveller to present “The Music of the Moody Blues with Full Orchestra” at 8 p.m. June 25 at the Chagrin Falls High School Performing Arts Center, 400 E. Washington St.
Tickets are $40 for reserved seats and all proceeds will benefit the Chagrin Valley Little Theatre Capital Campaign and the orchestra. Call (440) 247-8955 or visit cvlt.org.
Patron seating, which includes a private post-show reception at Gamekeeper’s and West End Bistro and a commemorative DVD, is available for $100.
This collaboration concert is a big and exciting endeavor for studio orchestra conductor Stephen Eva.
“The Moody Blues, they are classic, so it’s really exciting,” he said, adding the show will feature professional sound and lighting effects. “This will be a rock concert, not an orchestra concert.”
The orchestral arrangements for the 90-minute show were commissioned from composer Ralph Guzzi of Pittsburgh, and will cover three decades of Moody Blues classics, including “Nights in White Satin,” “Ride My See Saw” and “Tuesday Afternoon.”
Eva said the orchestra is excited to shake things up a little bit, play rock music and enjoy all the theatrics that come along with it.
This concert also fits perfectly with Eva’s main mission to promote orchestral music to an audience that might never have experienced it before.
“One of my big goals and missions is to bring concert music to different audiences and present it in a different way,” he said. “People who have never really heard an orchestra might come hear a rock band, so we get the opportunity to show them what an orchestra sounds like.”
Time Traveller drummer Marty Zlocki is thrilled about the opportunity to play the 750-seat high school auditorium. He joined the band in 2006 and they have since played mostly clubs and small venues.
“This is as good as it gets,” he said. “We’re trying to bring together the two genres — the rock and the classical music. It’s beautiful.”
Zlocki thinks the blending of the two musical styles is a natural combination.
