Unemployed People Shouldn't Get Married
Marry a man who was unemployed .We all want to think romance and love trump money. Plenty of people out there who read this poll's findings may think, "Wow, what cold, gold-digging beeyotches! Where do they get off saying they won't marry a man they're in love with -- just because he happens to be unemployed?" But money does deserve more credit than love sometimes. When it comes to this poll question, I'm definitely with that 75 percent.
In short, because I value security and equate it with marriage.
I've heard stories of how Sally and Bob So-and-So got engaged and married without a penny to their name or while they were in between jobs. He used a ring out of a candy machine or gave her a 1/4-carat diamond. It's a lovely, sentimental memory for some couples, but I don't think they deserve a pat on the back for deciding to get hitched when the chips were down.
Because whether we like it or not, it makes a lot more sense for couples to wait until they've attained a certain level of security before tying the knot. For many reasons, but namely, for confidence. With some money in the bank and a steady paycheck, you're better assured that you really can start a life together. Split rent or save up a down payment for a house. Get a dog, a cat, and possibly have kids someday.
Personally, and like 65 percent of the women polled, I wouldn't get married if I wasn't secure in my career. A regular, not even all that princess-y wedding is an expense in itself, but I'd also want to know I had money coming in that I could put toward our new life together (honeymoon, roof over our heads, furniture perhaps, to pay for a move, etc.).
Also, I understand where a guy is coming from when he talks about wanting security before marriage. I once told my boyfriend that I love him so much, I'd live with him even if he ended up living in a box on the street. But I've since taken it back. Because if that were to happen, he wouldn't be happy or a good partner. I know it sounds like antiquated wisdom, but consciously or subconsciously, I think guys want to know they can play the role of "provider."
Sure, you're in it for the long haul, and what difference does it make if you're unemployed when married or married then unemployed? Of course, you can't predict the future. But you can Geez, I guess my husband should never have married me, seeing as I was an unemployed university student at the time! Honestly, my dh and I got engaged really young (I was 18, he was 20) and got married young (I was 20, he was 22.) He just graduated college a few months before we got married and had started his first full time job (we both worked part time while in college to pay our rent/bills.) We didn't have a lot when we got married but we knew it would be upwards from there...at this point we have been married twelve years, have a house that will be paid off in 8 years time, three kids, two cars, and no personal debt beyond our mortgage and car payment, so I think we did pretty well considering the fact that we got married as starving students. In today's economy, you really can't count on job stability... that guy with the kickass job when you tie the knot could be collecting unemployment insurance a year down the road. I think money management skills are more significant than what job you are holding down at the time of the wedding, since I know plenty with a good salary and still major debt!

Ah, it's the month of June -- when many couples tie the knot in holy vows of marriage. De Beer's, the world's dominant diamond company, has taught us in its marketing campaigns that "a diamond is forever.
Now, one in every 10 Koreans getting married is tying the knot with a foreigner. Government figures show the number of Koreans taking foreign spouses increased from 4710 (1.2 percent of the total marriages) in 1990 to 42356 (13.5 percent) in 2005
But the big issues that need to be settled before you decide to tie the knot are: finances; sex; compatibility of religion / world views; prospective in-law relationships. You need to have a shared plan on all these issues because each one of them can
Women will wed for love... if partner has job - Emirates 24/7
Most women would marry for love over money - unless the man is unemployed, according to a new survey.
Three out of four women said they would not wed someone without a job, and 65 percent would feel uncomfortable tying the knot if they themselves were jobless.
But more than 91 percent of single women said they would marry for love over money.
"It is ironic that women place more weight on love than money, yet won't marry if they or their potential suitor is unemployed," said Meghan Casserly, of ForbesWoman which conducted the survey with the website YourTango.com.
Even more telling, she said, is that 77 percent of women surveyed believe they can have it all - a fulfilling relationship and family life, as well as a successful career.
But 63 percent of women said they work 40-59 hours, and 62 percent of women in a relationship said they spend just three waking hours or less with their partner during the work week.
"The career is really taking the No. 1 position for working women," Casserly said. "It's pretty ironic that this number of women believe they can have everything. How? When?"
Two out of five women in a relationship said their job was most likely to keep them up at night, according to the poll of 625 women. Job responsibilities and love life tied as the factors most likely to keep single women awake.
Thirty-two percent of women said they make more money than their partner and half said they would marry someone who earned significantly less than them, while 41 percent wouldn't.
Fifty-five percent of women said they would give up their career to take care of children if their partner asked them to do so. But only 28 percent would ask the same of their partner.
If women could find an extra hour in each day, 42 percent would spend it by themselves, instead of with their partner, friends or family or on work.
