It's never too early to prepare

The Hermiston football team finished another year of the Tri-Cities football camp last night at Lampson Field with scrimmages against a couple of the high school teams from Pasco.

It was a week that head coach Mark Hodges, who is preparing for his fourth season leading the Bulldogs, said started rough but got better as the week progressed.

This is Hodges’ opportunity to see his returning players, and anybody new to the program, strap on the pads and actually get into some game situations against other teams.

There is no summer league or American Legion schedule for him to tinker and tweak and get his athletes tons of repetition. Hermiston has had a couple of weeks of practice leading up to this week’s camp, and now all the pads are turned back in until fall practices can actually start.

This is just a reality of high school football, once the intensity of a season ends between October and December that intensity doesn’t really ratchet back up until August.

A great example of this is at the end of “Friday Night Lights.”

Billy Bob Thornton’s character is pulling the engraved placards of his senior football players off of his depth chart and dropping them into a box. The coach looks at what is left on the board and starts to think about next season, despite the fact that he is barely removed from the heart breaking state championship game loss.

When that scene plays out in real life, the coach doesn’t know what is players are going to do from the end of one season to the next. Families move in and out of the district. Priorities for the athlete might change. Maybe the growth spurt that everybody expects because that is just what all the other siblings did between sophomore and junior year never comes.

Life is full of variables and when it comes to high school football those variables keep the coach guessing from one year to the next.

The Permian Panthers got to the state championship game in the movie. That is where Hodges ultimately would like to take the Hermiston Bulldogs and he hopes to one day win a football state championship for Hermiston High. To get there he is going to need the same time of improved commitment to getting better that he has had each of his first three years.

Each summer there have been move guys getting gear to be involved in spring practice and more guys going to the summer camp. The athletes who are going to be sophomores and the incoming freshman have set new standards for their early involvement and commitment to the program. As those numbers continue to increase and solidify everything will get easier for Hodges and the Bulldogs to reach their goals.

So my ? is how do yall get it through to your body that baby is in a growth spurt if? your at work and not with baby nursing. I can only pump 3 times, for about 15 mins give or take a few while im at work. I havent had any real issues until we went back for babys check up and dr said hes not gaining fast enough so when im at work we have to add powdered formula to his bm to make it have more calories.?? I try and pump alot But what happens when this growth spurt hits at 6 months?? What if it starts on a monday? i work every other day so i would have only the evening on monday and then tuesday all day but what about wednesday??? then thursday I would have all day but still??? and then my poor husband >> what should he do ? lol my son eats alot as it is "Supposedly" because he eats 16 oz in 8 hours...??? THANKS LADIES HOW DO YOU DO IT?? Have you been able to build up any freezer stash? I'm guessing not from your questions. My DD hit a big growth spurt at 6 mo. That combined with using more of my stash during a stay in the hospital got me to where we only had 4 bottles worth of extra. I usually pump 4 x a day, first thing in the morning before nursing DD, at 9, 12 and 2. I work 8 hours a day 5 days a week. I started adding pumping sessions on the way to and from work and pumping on the weekends 2 times a day. After a few weeks, I'm up to 30-40 extra bottles worth of milk. W/o a growth spurt, DD would go through about 10-12 oz a day. During the growth spurt we were up to around 18 oz a day. So besides me giving him free reign when we are togeather " which is what he always has" is there anything else. i TRY and pump as much as possible and even though it seems like im on a pumping roll some days like there isnt any difference.?? Guess this weekend Imma really try and pump pump pump.. and pretend he is in a growth spurt.. hell just have to play on mommys bed with her...LOL instead of being carted around.
