Waco: Main Library To Relocate During Major Renovations
The city has already spent $5.9 million on the new West Waco Library, which opened last year.
Improvements to the main library facility will include a new climate control system, an atrium entrance to the east side and a larger reading section for children and youth.
The Waco City Council will vote Tuesday on whether to award the renovation contract to John W. Irwin General Contractor of Waco and on whether to spend over $100,000 to lease temporary space at 1525 Washington Ave.
Irwin's bid for construction was $4.08 million dollars, approximately $700,000 less than the director of the Waco-McLennan County Library system, James Karney, estimated the work would cost.
Shelving, furniture and design expenses are not included in the price.
The current library location will close on July 2nd.
