Movement Detroit 2011 breaks attendance record
The main stage area was packed tight for hours before Fatboy Slim took the stage. Dubfire started the crowd dancing before sunset and Green Velvet brought back club memories in his outrageous multi-media set. But when Fatboy Slim took the stage with his smiley-face and crossbones logo on the big screen, there was just no stopping the energy he ignited in the crowd. Seeing the legend live was not at all like sitting at home and listening to one of his CDs. He kept the mixes fresh and the stage show as colorful as a box of crayons in a blender.
In a word, the weekend was seamless. The sheer joy of attending a multi-stage event is bouncing from stage to stage between acts. But Movement 2011 was so precise and so well-timed that there were no "between acts." Artists flowed one to the next as smooth as a remix itself. That sort of precision is what will keep the crowds coming back for more. And after this record-breaker, one can only wonder what Paxahau management has in store for Detroit in 2012.
