Garden to be dedicated
GARDEN DEDICATION HELD: Akron Children's Hospital Mahoning Valley conducted a dedication ceremony recently for the Children's Garden of Hope on the hospital's Beeghly Campus in Boardman.
The garden in the courtyard area adjacent to the registration lobby will provide patients, their families and others a place to visit. The garden includes a stone patio, a serene waterfall, teak benches, lush landscaping and a bronze sculpture. The patio area in the Garden of Hope is lined with personalized, engraved pavers designed to remember individuals and families.

VEGETABLE CONTEST PLANNED BY GROUP: The Trumbull 4-H and Master Gardener programs are hosting a vegetable growing contest for Trumbull County youth, to be held Aug. 6 at the Summer Sizzle event at the Trumbull Agriculture and Family Education Center in Cortland. This contest is open to all youth up to age 18 in Trumbull County. There will be three divisions with different vegetable classes.
Registration is required by calling 330-638-6783. Entry forms can be obtained from the Trumbull OSU Extension Office.
CLUB TO HOLD DEBATE ON PROSTITUTION: The Youngstown Torch Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Holiday Inn, South Avenue, Boardman, with guest speakers Janet Moy LaMonica and Dr. S. Floyd Barger in a debate on the pros and cons of legalization of prostitution. For more information, call 330-792-7351.
SUMMER CAMP PLANNED: The Newton Falls Salvation Army Service Unit is prepared to send children ages 6 to 12 to Camp Northeast Ohio Salvation Army from July 8 to 13. Campers will attend Camp NEOSA near Carrollton.

FOUNDATION PROVIDES GRANTS: The Raymond John Wean Foundation awarded $70,000 in grants to organizations for projects that will focus on improving lives and opportunities for residents of the Mahoning Valley. Receiving awards for ongoing work were Valley Counseling Services Inc., Jump Start Inc., NewsOutlet and the Youngstown State University Center for Urban and Regional Studies.
The foundation states as its purpose a commitment to help the Mahoning Valley become a healthy place to live, work and raise families.
GRANT PROVIDED FOR BACKPACK PROGRAM: Target stores awarded $3,000 to the Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley to support the BackPack Program for children when other resources are not available.
