San Juan residents celebrate Basaan Festival
MANILA, Philippines – Despite heavy rains and flooding, residents of San Juan celebrated the annual “Wattah! Wattah!” or Basaan Festival in their city.
City fire trucks arrived at the Tanghalan ng Masa on Friday to participate in the event, which symbolizes the baptism of Jesus Christ by the city’s patron saint San Juan de Bautista.
The event was also highlighted by a street dance number and the arrival of ABS-CBN reality show “Biggest Loser” contestant JM Oloris, a San Juan resident for 4 years.
Residents prepared water hoses and water guns of various sizes for the event.
Styrofoam and fruit peelings were also thrown in the air.
As part of the gathering, San Juan residents also joined in prayer for the safety of Filipinos across the country, raged by tropical storm “Falcon”.
