Weight Loss Surgery- A Big Help in Many Cases

Researchers said that eight out of ten patients could stop taking their diabetes medications following a gastric bypass operation this was a report published in the archive of surgery.

Dr. Jon Gould, who heads the weight loss surgery program at the University of Wisconsin and was not involved in the review, said that Surgery must to be considered as front line therapy for diabetes among obese people.

The researchers search through the data of nine studies of diabetics who had either gastric bypass or one more form of weight loss surgery called gastric banding. In gastric bypass, food is abstracted around the stomach into a small pouch, dipping the quantity of food a person can eat and obstructing its absorption.

Gastric banding trips a ring over the top of the stomach to limit the amount of food the person consume.

Diabetics who had gastric bypass had the gold benchmark weight loss surgery in the U.S. 83 percent wound up free of diabetes medications, some within days of the procedure.

“Sixty-two percent of diabetics who had the gastric banding procedure could stop taking diabetes medication while maintaining good control of their blood sugar. Dr. Rick Meijer at the Institute for Cardiovascular Research at Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam and the lead author of the new report said those outcomes exceed what can be achieved with conventional methods of diabetes treatment.”

Gould said that the original cost of surgery, compared to the extended costs of diabetes care and other health effects of being obese, can be earn after 18 months to two years.

Gould told Reuters Health that it would be a vast directs cost, but looking at this from the bigger picture, he thinks that if we can cure instead of manage the complications, it will save money in the long run.

What is the maximum grams of sugar a diabetic person could handle ...

Approximately, how many grams of sugar to a diabetic must consume in a day? or by portion? Please aid, because a diabetic remains in my house and I am having a little while difficult to prepare the foods that can eat! Thank you very much by the answers. the four first. Help they me in the understanding than I can cook for her. Thanks for info carbohydrates b/c that did not know they were bad carbohydrates for the diabetics. Thaaaaaaaanks again!

well. . . . there isnt really a specific “gram” that they can handle at maximum. it really depends on how bad theyre diabetes is. my dad is diabetic. so, i cant really tell you how many ‘grams” specifically that they can take, but i can tell you some food you can make for a diabetic. ok, first of all, diabetics cant take much carbohydrates, because carbs turn into sugar. so if you are using bread, use whole wheat bread, or bread with lotthe most fiber you can find. if your using pasta, they have low carb pasta, or even high fiber pasta, which is good too. the reason i recommend fiber, is because if it contains a good amount of fiber, it cuts down the carbohydrate when eaten (kinda confusing) o. o but thats how it works. if you are baking something, such as cake or what not, use splenda. you can use it in cooking, and baking. you canot cook with sweet and low. hmmm. . . if you are cooking something and are planning to use sugar, maybe you can seperate a certain amount of what your cooking before you add the sugar. so you can put sugar in yours, in splenda in theirs. vegetables are fine, and great for diabetics. fruits are ok too, but in moderation because fruit has sugar too. probably the best thing for diabetics is protein and fiber. both are great because they keep your stomach filled for a long time without really raising or lowering your blood sugar. if you need more help you can message me. ^^ im hypoglycemic, the opposite of diabetic, and i need to eat the same things as a diabetic too. i hope this helped you somewhat.

Do you mean grams of carb? I’m a Type 1 on an insulin pump, and I find that anything over about 75g starts giving me goofy BG’s. But I think the most I’ve ever had since I was diabetic was about 150g (a Chinese food buffet. . . yikes) and I was still correcting myself all the way through the next morning. I try to stay under 50g most of the time and I do well with that. Most Type 2’s that aren’t on insulin can only tolerate between 30-40g at each meal, but everyone is a little different.
